Bread Class: Soft 100% Whole Grain Sandwich Loaf

In this hands-on class you will learn how to make our favorite, soft, 100% whole grain sandwich loaf. Also known as The Approachable Loaf, the formula was developed at the WSU Bread Lab as a way to show the world how tender and delicious a whole grain bread can be. This recipe is what we would call a hybrid – making use of both your sourdough starter and commercial dried yeast. Same day mix and bake keeps flavor profiles sweeter and more mellow.

Once purchased, all Grist & Toll classes are nonrefundable.

*Knowledge of how to feed, maintain and bake with a sourdough starter is a prerequisite for this class. While we will answer any questions related to the class recipes, we will jump right in to mixing and will not cover the basics of sourdough maintenance.

Light snacks will be provided
Students will take home their own Approachable loaf.
Students will be able to shop for flour and our other supplies while attending class.
Please bring your own apron. All other materials will be supplied by G&T.

In this hands-on class you will learn to make the (slightly adapted) formula, aka The Approachable Loaf, developed by WSU Bread Lab. The recipe is a hybrid, utilizing a sourdough starter plus a little commercial yeast. Same day mix and bake keeps flavor profiles sweeter and more mellow. This is exactly the loaf of bread every baker needs to have in their repertoire: soft, tender and utterly delicious.
